The Methodist Church Ghana, has launched its first ever television station, Wesleyan Television (WTV) in Kumasi to improve on the evangelism duties of the church.

The WTV which is solely owned by the church would also be used to trumpet the activities of the church across the country and provide avenue for people who would want to know the right teachings in the Bible and build their faith in God.

Addressing a gathering at the launch, the Presiding Bishop of the church, Most Reverend Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, was of the view that, the church venturing into the tele-evangelism should improve on societal development and it is expected to draw people forward in terms of religion to improve on the lives of people.

He was optimistic that, WTV would be guided by the media ethics that does not condone sensationalism, ethnocentrism among others and be champions of development, unity, probity and accountability, honesty and faithfulness in God.

Most Rev. Dr. Boafo urged media practitioners to uphold the freedom of the press and avoid abusing that right as he called for total respect for the media which help keep government on its toes.

The Kumasi Diocesan Bishop who was the Co-Chairman of the steering committee of the formation of the television station, Rt. Rev. Christopher Nyarko Andam, expressed his gratitude to God and other influences who made it possible for the establishment of the television station after it was brought to vision in 2016.

He said there were lots of obstacles ranging from licensing, equipment among others but through determination and hard work, the plan was successful to establish WTV.

Rt. Rev. Andam was hopeful the establishment of WTV would provide job opportunities for others and help contribute to solving the unemployment challenges in the country.

He stated that, the mission of the WTV was to deliver quality Christian-centered television programmes and contents that would appeal to the needs of all businesses underpinned by the rich values of the church.
