A “Star Wars” spinoff is receiving negative attention from fans for pushing LGBT ideology in what has become a trend in recent adaptations of legendary franchises.

While “The Acolyte” premiered Tuesday, it has been clear since long before the series officially became available to the subscribers of Disney+ that the program was designed to appeal to a progressive audience. In an X post last year, the “Star Wars” fan account The Direct announced that “THE ACOLYTE has cast Abigail Thorn as Ensign Eurus, making her the first transgender actor to appear in a #StarWars series.”

Earlier this year, series creator Leslye Headland openly admitted to the goal behind the show in an interview that surfaced on X. “When I saw ‘Frozen’ as a grown-a– woman, I cried through the entire movie,” she recalled. “There was just something about the relationship between the sisters, the … devillainization of the classic kind of fairytale bad guy, you know, the concept of true love being between two sisters and not a heterosexual relationship … it just destroyed me completely.”

At that point, Headland said her desire was “to make something like this that is, you know, for lack of a better term, Disney, meaning something that like my parents would have allowed me to see when I was younger as a queer person, that I would have been able to understand a queer person.” She asserted that had such a program existed, she “would have had a completely different life.”

“I really was inspired by it and I was like ‘God, I would love to make a story like this,’” she added. “When I was developing this original idea to pitch to [production company Lucasfilm’s] Kathleen [Kennedy], I thought … you know it can’t just be that, you know, when you’re pitching ‘Star Wars’ you have to pull from what you know [‘Star Wars’ creator] George [Lucas] was also interested in.”

Headland saw an opportunity to create her “own new characters” who lived during a period of time in the “Star Wars” universe known as the “High Republic” or the “end of High Republic into prequels” that preceded the “Skywalker saga” that is at the center of the “Star Wars” franchise.

In a text message to The New York Times published last week, Headland proclaimed, “Anyone who engages in bigotry, racism or hate speech … I don’t consider a fan.”

A review of the first few episodes of “The Acolyte” posted to YouTube Tuesday night warned that the third episode of the series works to “completely redefine what ‘The Force’ is” and highlighted how “two mothers conceive twins” as part of the plot line. The video, posted by the account Geeks + Gamers, featured one fan of the franchise telling the others on the panel to “get ready for pronouns in Star Wars.”

A summary of “The Acolyte” created by the Internet Movie Database describes the show as a “Star Wars series that takes viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

“The Acolyte” is not the first example of a new installment of a long-running franchise embracing LGBT ideology. In 2021, DC Comics announced on “National Coming Out Day” that “the life of Jon Kent, the Superman of Earth and son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane” would take a “bold new direction” in a then-unpublished version of the comic book series Superman: Son of Kal-El. The plot twist hyped by the comic book company involved the revelation of the main character as bisexual.

Comedian Bill Maher condemned the sexualization of children and push to expose them to drag and trans ideology, warning that the “tribal” nature of American politics is leading people to abandon the long-held consensus that “exposing kids to an adult world of lurid costumes and garish makeup borders on abuse.”

Maher concluded the satirical segment “New Rules” on his HBO show “Real Time” Friday by asking his audience if they had watched the new documentary “Quiet on Set” that detailed what he described as “the child stars of their day being subjected to obviously inappropriate, highly sexualized degradation” at the children’s programming network Nickelodeon.

He said the revelations exposed on “Quiet on Set” had spread rapidly in Hollywood because “it didn’t just expose a dangerous workplace, it also exposed hypocrisy.”

The comedian tied the concerns about sexualization of children highlighted in the documentary to contemporary political topics that have dominated the headlines in American politics. “When the evil governor of Florida was saying the exact same thing about kids and creepy stuff at Disney that liberals now find intolerable at Nickelodeon, he was dismissed as a hick and a bigot,” he said.

Maher was referring to Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ collaboration with the state Legislature to revoke the special tax status awarded to the Walt Disney World Resort in his state after its parent company spoke out against a bill requiring school officials to refrain from discussing topics related to sexual orientation and gender identity with children in kindergarten through third grade.

“Why would a kids’ content factory like Disney be all that different than the one at Nickelodeon?” Maher asked. Noting that a 2014 CNN report detailed how “at least 35 Disney employees had been arrested for sex crimes against children,” and that former child star Cole Sprouse had alleged that young actresses at Disney were “heavily sexualized,” Maher asserted that “DeSantis wasn’t wrong.”

The comedian lamented that “we’re so tribal now, the left will overlook child-f—ing if the guy from the wrong party calls it out.”

Maher spent the rest of his monologue condemning the sexualization of children that extends beyond Hollywood and industries that cater directly to children, specifically calling out “Instagram moms … who are practically OnlyFansing their itty-bitty beauty queen daughters by having them wear skimpy bikinis and eat bananas to help them build social media stardom.” He referred to these parents as “pimps.”

“People who believe in social justice have agreed this is wrong and this is bad and exposing kids to an adult world of lurid costumes and garish makeup borders on abuse,” he said.

Maher suggested that such individuals were abandoning this principle as of late: “Hurry up and get in the car. We’re late for drag queen story hour.”

While Maher stressed that he doesn’t believe there’s “anything wrong with being a drag queen,” he contended that “maybe it’s time to admit that sometimes drag queen story hour is more for the queen than the kids.”

“When I see a 5-year-old tipping, tipping at a bar under a sign that says, ‘It’s not gonna lick itself,’ do I have to pretend that’s cool in order to keep my liberal ID card? Sorry, I can’t do that.”

Maher added, “If you want kids to be more tolerant, why not have handicapped people read them stories? Kids are more likely to encounter disabled people than drag queens in life.”

“Wokeness is not an extension of liberalism anymore,” he continued. “It’s more often taking something so far that it becomes the opposite. Teaching kids not to hate or judge those who are different? Great. Proud we got there. All for that. But at a certain point, inclusion becomes promotion.”

After sharing his opinion that children are “gullible morons” who will “believe anything and just want to please grown-ups,” Maher warned that “endlessly talking about gender to 6-year-olds isn’t just inappropriate, it’s what the law would call entrapment, which means enticing people into doing something they wouldn’t ordinarily do.”

In response to those who don’t think entrapment is going on with regard to “gender in schools,” Maher suggested they must “not watching enough TikTok videos.”

Maher played two video clips of teachers who work with children at unspecified grade levels discussing or demonstrating how they put their LGBT activism on display in the classroom. He cited these teachers as examples of “a certain kind of activist these days who wants to take heterosexuality: old school, old fashioned, boring, minding its own business heterosexuality, and lump it in with patriarchy and sexism and racism and tell kids ‘wouldn’t it be cool if you were anything but that?’”

“I never used the phrase ‘gay agenda’ because I thought it was mostly nonsense and it is, mostly,” he said.

After playing a clip of a Disney director talking about how she had a “not-at-all secret gay agenda” that consisted of “basically adding queerness” to children’s programming as much as possible, Maher urged fellow liberals to “think about giving kids a break from our culture wars for a minute or at least until the election is over.”

While Maher identifies with the political Left, he has been known to express doubts about certain aspects of progressive orthodoxy in the past. He most recently went viral for acknowledging that abortion was “kind of” murder on “Real Time” last week while insisting that he was “OK with it.”

Ronald McCray once identified as a homosexual for six years, only to find “The Life” offered nothing to satisfy the longing of his soul. He had a life-changing experience with the Holy Spirit that transformed his life.

He Was Drunk in the Club When He Heard the Voice of the Lord.

Growing up, Ronald McCray missed out on the attention young boys need. He was raised mostly by his mother, while his father struggled with addiction.

“The substance abuse kind of pulled him away from me, so dad would make promises that he was going to pick me up and I would be excited and waiting by the window, and time would pass by and dad wouldn’t show up…The lack of relationship that I had with my father that really made me wonder if I was worthy of love.”

Then, when Ronald was 9-years old, a trusted male relative exposed him to pornography and secretly molested him for two years. Hurt and confused, Ronald began to question who he was.

“I remember getting up and running into the restroom and just washing myself and I just begged God for forgiveness because I felt like it was my fault. And it just felt like a cloud of guilt and shame was just hovering over me. That is when I started to have a sexual desire for the same sex. That was my first points of sexual reference.”

At 15, Ronald began exploring same-sex relationships. “You know, I was bullied a lot. I wasn’t the most masculine man. I had some feminine characteristics because I was so close to my mom. I was called names…so I began to ask myself, ‘Well, am I really those things?’

By the time he graduated high school, he was embracing a gay lifestyle. “I found myself being attracted, often times to guys who possessed the qualities that I lacked and when men would give me love, or what I thought love was, I gravitated to it.”

However, as years passed he felt unsatisfied and empty. He remembered going to church as a boy…but now, he wasn’t sure God would accept him. “I felt like God didn’t want anything to do with a sinner like me. My happiness was contingent upon who I was with or the things that I was doing, but even eventually the clubs got old and drinking alcohol became tiresome and so I found myself depressed.

Then, Ronald’s roommate invited him to church. “You know, we went to the church and I sat in the service and preacher was preaching a powerful message uh about God’s love. The church embraced me with love and they had no idea how much their love was penetrating my heart. And so, I would go Sunday after Sunday.”

But one night, he was headed to the club with friends when they were robbed at gunpoint. In that moment, his life changed. “They made us get out of the car and lay face down on the ground, and the guy said to me ‘This is about to be a homicide.’ I knew that I could call on the name of Jesus when I was in trouble. I hadn’t called on his name in a long time but I called on him and I remember saying in my mind, ‘I know that the way that I lived my life was wrong, and if you let me die you are justified in that; but if you give me mercy, if you allow me to live, I’ll serve you. I’ll give my life to you.’ And I can’t even remember how long we were face down on the street, but all I remember was my friends coming to me and saying, “Ron, Ron, they’re gone.”

At church service on Sunday, October 18th 2009, he asked Jesus to restore his life. “And everything that I could think of that I had done to offend God, I asked him to forgive me of. And God filled me with his Holy Spirit, and that day marked a turning point in my life and I have not gone back to the homosexual lifestyle since then.”

A church leader reached out to Ronald as a mentor. “He poured into me the word of God, you know? And the word of God healed my heart. It transformed my way of thinking. I thought when, you know, I surrendered my life to Christ, that my attractions would just vanish. But for me, uh that was not the case. But I found that Jesus himself was tempted. He resisted Satan and Satan fled. And so that’s an example for me that I can too, resist temptation when it comes my way, but over the years the temptation was not as tempting anymore.”

And in Sunday School Ronald became friends with Fetima, who had also left the homosexual lifestyle. “A question was presented to the class and Fetima answered the question. And I was like ‘Who is this voice, this, you know, beautiful eloquence?’ And so I had to turn around without being obvious that I was looking at her. And the beauty matched the beauty of her words, so I’m already hooked.”

Their friendship blossomed into romance and they married in 2015. In 2019, Fetima gave birth to their son, Alexander. “To be a father is a dream come true, because I also wanted to be a father. I didn’t have the best example, growing up of what a father would look like but my Heavenly Father teaches me every day of how to be the best father to him.”

Today Ronald stands firm in his identity as a husband, father and man loved by God.

“You’re not too broken, you’re not too tarnished, for God, the potter, to put you back together again and give you new life.”
