“You will experience all these blessings if you obey the LORD your God” Deuteronomy 28:2 (NLT)

In both the Old and the New Testaments, God requires and insists on obedience from his people. Obedience attracts blessings from God. For instance, because Jesus humbled himself under the Father’s authority and obeyed his commands even on to death, his Father blessed him: He exalted Jesus to the highest place and gave him the name above all other names (Philippians 2:5-11).

In today’s anchor text, there is a promise of divine blessings to all who will obey the Lord: “You will experience all these blessings if you obey the LORD your God.” The rest of today’s passage details some of the blessings that go to the obedient, including the following:

The Lord will protect them against their enemies; the Lord will bless everything they put their hands to; the Lord will grant them abundant prosperity-the fruit of their womb as well as their crops and livestock will be blessed; the Lord will make them the head, not the tail, etc.

The Bible is full of examples of how God blesses his people for their obedience. Take Abraham, for instance. God blessed him
greatly when he obeyed God’s instructions to sacrifice his only Son Isaac to him. Jesus has promised the blessing of divine presence to those who obey him: “.. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them” (John 14:21). Do you want God to bless you? Then, commit yourself to obeying him.

πŸ› Meditation And Prayer: Lord, give me the grace to obey you always.

πŸ“š Further Reading: John 15:9-12.

πŸ”‘ Key Lesson: God blesses those who obey him.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

There’s those who even though revere the Bible, merely think of it as magnum opus. By this, they mean the Bible is a great work or masterpiece, as it were, one of the most significant or renowned piece of work in any field, often used to describe a literary, artistic, or musical work of exceptional quality or significance.

But all such nice descriptions still fall short of what the Bible is and represents. First, the Bible is Spirit inspired: “Every scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) …” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 AMPC). Thus, the Bible is a revelation; a compilation of the out-breathings of God; It’s God’s revelation given in words.

When we read the word, from the Old Testament into the New Testament, we’re reading God’s message, or what God said – His testimony. Of course, the Bible also contains what others said, such as Angels, humans, demons, and even Satan. Even what an animal (a donkey) said is recorded for us in Numbers 22:28-30. But still, the Bible is God’s testimony that they all said what they said. Therefore, much more than a magnum opus, the Bible is God’s document of truth, and it’s trustworthy and dependable. Let your Faith in it be unshakeable.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the privilege of having your Word, the Holy Scriptures. I acknowledge that Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. My heart and mind are open to receive the truths and wisdom contained therein. I’m guided by your Spirit and Holy Scriptures, as my faith is strengthened and my mind renewed, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

“And I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be my people. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt”
Leviticus 26:12-13 (ESV)

The promise of God to the Israelites that he will walk among them and be their God is refreshing. As a people who have embarked on a lonely journey to an unfamiliar land, they needed this assurance to keep them going. We Christians also need this assurance in our difficult and lonely journey.

Providentially, we also have such refreshing assurances. Some of them are “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews13:5);
“And behold. I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20); “For I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you” (Acts 18:10). God’s promises to the Israelites however came with a condition; thus, in Leviticus 26:3, God told them, “If you walk in my statutes and observe my commandments and do them,” then.. “I will make my dwelling among you, and my soul shall not abhor you.” (v.1). God also promised to prosper them. He again promised to give them peace and security (vv.6-7). Above all, he will give them victory over their enemies (vv.8-10). Do you desire to experience God’s constant presence and
blessings upon your life? Then walk in his statutes and obey his commandments.

πŸ› Meditation And Prayer:

Father, help me to walk in your statutes so I can enjoy your blessings.

πŸ“š Further Reading: Deuteronomy 11:13-15; Ezekiel 37:26-28

πŸ”‘ Key Lesson: God’s presence is with those who walk according to his statutes.

Divine favor refers to the supernatural blessing, grace, and approval of God that is bestowed upon an individual or a situation. It is an act of God’s kindness, mercy, and generosity towards His children. Divine favor is not something that can be earned or achieved through human efforts alone, but it is a gift given by God out of His love and favor towards us. When someone experiences divine favor, they may receive special opportunities, open doors, protection, provision, guidance, and success in various areas of life. It is a demonstration of God’s goodness and faithfulness, as He intervenes in our lives to bring about favorable outcomes and blessings. Divine favor happens in different ways, depending on the specific needs and circumstances of an individual. It can be experienced in relationships, career, finances, health, spiritual growth, and other areas of life. It is a reminder of God’s presence and His desire to bless His children abundantly. As believers, we can seek divine favor through prayer, obedience to God’s Word, living a life that pleases Him, and cultivating a deep relationship with Him. We can trust that God is a loving Father who desires to pour out His favor upon us and fulfill His good plans for our lives. Someone may not particularly like you or your personality, but that doesn’t matter when God’s divine favor is upon you.

Ruth, a Moabite woman, experienced God’s favor in her life. Despite being a foreigner and facing difficult circumstances, her unwavering faith and loyalty led her to encounter God’s favor and experience a transformational journey.

In the book of Ruth, we see how Ruth’s faithfulness and devotion to her mother-in-law, Naomi, demonstrated her trust in God and His plan for her life. Ruth’s famous words in Ruth 1:16-17 reflect her commitment: “Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.”

God’s favor became evident as Ruth gleaned in the fields of Boaz, a wealthy landowner and relative of Naomi. Boaz noticed Ruth’s character and virtuous behavior, leading to his protection and provision for her. In Ruth 2:12, Boaz speaks to Ruth, saying, “May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”

God’s favor continued to guide Ruth’s steps as Boaz fulfilled his role as a kinsman-redeemer, marrying Ruth and securing her future. Through this union, Ruth became part of the lineage of King David and, ultimately, Jesus Christ. Ruth’s story exemplifies how God’s favor can turn challenging circumstances into blessings beyond imagination.

Ruth’s faithfulness, humility, and obedience were instrumental in her experiencing God’s favor. Her story serves as an inspiration for individuals to trust in God’s plan, even in difficult times. Ruth’s journey demonstrates that when we align our lives with God’s purposes and walk in obedience to Him, His favor can transform our circumstances and lead us to unexpected blessings and a significant impact on His Kingdom.

Ruth’s life showcases the power of God’s favor and the profound impact that an individual’s faithfulness and trust in Him can have on their destiny. Her story continues to encourage believers

These are some of the things you should take note of and practice in order to experience favor and your prayers will be answered.

1.Give your life to Christ.

2.Repent from your secret sins and confess your sins to God.

3.Ask God to have mercy and forgive you of your sinful lifestyle

4.Be a person of prayer.

5.Stay connected to God.

6.Decide to live in obedience to God’s word and trust God to help you with the decision.

7.Walk in love daily.

8.Study the Word of God.

Daily Confession of Favor

In the Name of Jesus, I am the righteousness of God. Therefore, I am entitled to covenant kindness and covenant favor. The favor of God is among the righteous. The favor of God surrounds the righteous. Therefore, it surrounds me everywhere I go and in everything I do. I expect the favor of God to be in full manifestation in my life.

Never again will I be without the favor of God. It rests richly upon me. It profusely abounds in me. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (ESV)

We are on mission to call all people back to God. In international diplomacy, the ambassador is the keeper of the goodwill and interests of the leader and people of the country he or she represents. The ambassador protects and draws citizens in the diaspora to their country. When citizens are held captive by foreign oppressors, it is the ambassador’s duty to work for their freedom from the oppressor. Jesus came from heaven to redeem us and now he has made us to be his sent people. God in Christ reconciling the world to himself, redeeming us from the oppressor of this world, so he can prepare us for Our country-Heaven. He has committed the ministry of protecting Heaven’s interest to bring back its estranged citizens. Christ does not point accusing finger at us but draws us to himself. We are to draw all people to Christ through how we live, showing God’s kindness revealed through Christ Jesus to the world. Are you a reconciler or an accuser of God’s people? Do it like Christ.

“Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him” Hebrews 9:27-28 (NIV).

When we fail in life, God may give us the second chance. David sinned terribly, but God gave him a second chance. Jonah rebelled and run away from God, but God gave him a second chance. Peter denied Jesus thrice, but God gave him a second chance. But there is something that does not attract a second chance: death. Part of today’s focus text declares: “… people are destined to die once , and after that to face judgement.” We are preordained to die only once. There is nothing like re-incarnation. That concept is a lie of the devil. Everyone is born once and dies once. The sobering truth is that there is no opportunity after death to come back into this world to make amends to any mistakes or sins we may have committed. What awaits each of us after death is judgement. Jesus is the appointed Judge. He died once to pay for our sins and will return to bring salvation to those who make the wise choice to believe in him and receive him as their personal Saviour and Lord. We have only one chance to make this important choice-while we are alive. Have you received Jesus as your saviour?

πŸ› Meditation and Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving me the grace to receive you as my Saviour.

“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you” 1 Peter 4:12 (NIV)

If you are a true Christian, don’t be surprised at the painful trials that hit you from time to time. Our Lord Jesus cautioned us in John 16:33: “… In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” As long as we are in this evil world, we will face challenges. Hence, the Apostle Peter exhorts us in today’s anchor text: “Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.” Christians should recognize that trials are inescapable in this world. Even Jesus himself faced many troubles in this world. So don’t be surprised when you encounter hardships and difficulties in life. Don’t be surprised when Satan and his demons tempt and attack you. Don’t be surprised when your co-workers hate and marginalize you. Don’t be surprised when your neighbors despise and slander you. Don’t be surprised when your enemies ridicule, insult and plot against you. Don’t be surprised when you are afflicted by one sickness or the other. How should we respond to trials? Peter teaches us not be ashamed, but rather rejoice and praise God that we suffer as Christians, not as criminals and then commit ourselves to God and persevere in doing good. Don’t be shocked when you encounter trials!

πŸ› Meditation And Prayer:

Lord, give me the grace to respond to trials in a godly way.

πŸ“š Further Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:16-20.

πŸ”‘ Key Lesson:

Trials are unavoidable in this world.

For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken
by us to the glory of God (2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV).

God never makes a promise until He has fulfilled it. Every promise was fulfilled in Christ: β€œFor all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us” (2 Corinthians 1:20). So, if God tells you something that sounds like a promise, He already fulfilled that promise. Let me explain it to you this way: imagine He puts ten thousand dollars in your account, then He calls you on the phone and says, “Son, or daughter, I will give you ten thousand dollars if you’d do XYZ.” Now, He only made that promise because He already put the money in your account. This is simple to understand when you realize that God doesn’t have a future; He lives in eternity. Psalm 90:2 says, β€œBefore the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” Future for man is history with God.

Now you can better understand Paul’s beautiful conclusion in Hebrews 4:3 that all β€œβ€¦the works were finished from the foundation of the world.” In other words, before the earth was created, God had completed His work. Before you ever came on the scene, before your parents ever dreamed of coming together, God had known you and concluded everything about you. Think about it: we’re already in the month of July, but before we ever knew 2023 was the Year of the Prolific Church, the Lord already put everything in place to make it so. What you require isn’t to ask God to make you prolific; no! Simply walk in the grace of that word. With that grace, take your community, seize your city, and dominate your country for Christ. Flood everywhere with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Let it be said of you as it was said of the apostles in Acts 5:28: β€œβ€¦ behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine….”

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for making the fullness of the blessings of the Gospel possible and available to me in Christ, for all your promises have been fulfilled in Him. Now, I walk in the light of my prosperity, victory, success, joy, peace, and all the blessings of the Kingdom, for all are now mine! Praise God!

“They all plotted together come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat” Nehemiah 4:8-9 (NIV)

Whenever God gives an important task to his people to tackle, the evil one opposes them. The prophets of the Old Testament faced opposition. Our Lord Jesus faced stiff opposition. The Apostles, especially Paul, faced strong opposition. Nehemiah was no exception; he encountered serious opposition when he started what God had called him to do: to repair Jerusalem’s walls. The enemies were very angry that the work was progressing. So “they all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it.” But Nehemiah and his people responded in the wisest way: “.. we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.” They prayed for divine intervention and also took practical action for protection. Nehemiah encouraged his people, urging them not to be afraid and declared confidently: “Our God will fight for us” (v.20). So, the people were encouraged and continued the work despite constant opposition until the task was completed in just fifty-two days. Their enemies became “afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God” (Nehemiah 6:16). When you face opposition in your service to God, don’t be afraid. Seek God’s help; he will give you the victory.

Lord, give me victory over those who oppose the task you’ve given me to do.
